Desloratadine
Indications/Uses
Rapid relief of symptoms associated w/ allergic rhinitis eg, sneezing, nasal discharge & itching, congestion/stuffiness, ocular itching, tearing & redness, itching of palate & coughing. Symptomatic relief of urticaria eg, itching, size & number of hives.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10 mL once daily. Childn 12-17 yr 10 mL once daily, 6-11 yr 5 mL once daily, 1-5 yr 2.5 mL once daily, 6-11 mth 2 mL once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to desloratadine or loratadine.
Special Precautions
Potential for enhanced liver toxicity. Slow metabolizers. Potentiated sedative effects w/ ethanol or other sedatives. Moderate to severe renal & severe hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Ped patients (increased susceptibility to seizure particularly w/ history of seizures).
Adverse Reactions
Palpitations, tachycardia; erythema, maculopapular eruption, pruritus, rash; diarrhea, increased & loss of appetite, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, xerostomia; hepatitis, increased liver enzymes; hypersensitivity reaction, varicella zoster & parasitic infection; myalgia; dizziness, drowsiness, headache, hyperactive behavior, insomnia, movement disorder, seizure, somnolence; otitis media; irritability, mood swings; UTI; dysmenorrhea; nose bleeding, bronchitis, cough, dyspnea, nasal discharge, pharyngitis, URTI, epistaxis; fatigue, fever.
